In Outliers, a book I highly recommend, Malcolm Gladwell said the magic number to become an expert in a field is 10,000 hours. That’s a consistent three hours per day for almost 10 years focused on the same skill… Ain’t nobody got time for time for that.
At a TED Talk, Josh Kaufman proclaimed he could teach people to be “pretty good” at a skill in 20 hours, or 45 minutes per day for a month… No one believes you.
So this is my journey, somewhere between 20 and 10,000, to learn a lot about a little. I’m ignoring the whole “write what you know” and writing about my road to learning more, with lots of wine along the way.
